Personable Identifiable Information (PII) refers to any data that can be used to uniquely identify a specific individual. This includes but is not limited to names, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, and email addresses. PII is highly sensitive and must be handled with care to protect individuals’ privacy. Organizations that collect and store PII are required to follow strict regulations, such as GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in Europe and CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) in the U.S., to ensure that personal data is protected from misuse, unauthorized access, or breaches. Failing to protect PII can lead to serious legal consequences and loss of trust.
