Belarus Address Format With Examples

Belarus, an Eastern European country with a highly developed postal system, follows a structured addressing format regulated by Belpochta, the national postal service provider. As a former Soviet republic, Belarus still retains some Soviet-era postal structuring, but in recent years, the country has modernized its address system by adopting digital postal services, improved logistics, and international address compatibility. Major urban centers like Minsk, Brest, Gomel, Vitebsk, and Grodno have precisely numbered streets, while rural areas often rely on village names and postal districts for mail delivery. This guide will help you understand the residential, business, and international mail address format in Belarus.

Belarus Address Format Breakdown

Recipient Name

The recipient’s full name (first name + last name) is placed on the first line. If the mail is intended for a business, write the company name first, followed by the department or recipient’s name.

Example

IVAN PETROV

Or

BELARUS IMPORTS LTD

ATTN: IVAN PETROV

Street Address or PO Box (P.O. Box)

The second line contains the street name and building number. If applicable, the apartment number (KV.), office number, or building section (Korpus) should be included. For P.O. Box addresses, use “А/Я” (short for “Абонентский ящик”) followed by the box number.

Example

UL. LENINA, 25, KV. 15

Or

А/Я 1020

City/Town and Postal Code

Belarus relies on a six-digit postal code system. Include the name of the city, town, or locality where the recipient resides before mentioning the appropriate postal code. Minsk, Gomel, Mogilev, and Vitebsk are some major cities in Belarus.

EXAMPLE

MINSK 220030

Or

Region

Belarus has six regions (oblasts), you must include the region name, especially for rural addresses.

Example

GRODNO REGION

Or

VITEBSK REGION

Country Name

Write the country name in the last line. If you are sending international mail, always write the country name in capital letters.

Special Considerations to Write a Belarusian Address

  • Address Placement: Write the address on the bottom right corner of the envelope.
  • Address Line Alignment: All Belarusian addresses should be left aligned.
  • Language: Belarusian, Russian, and English are acceptable for domestic and international mail, depending on the sender and recipient.
  • Rural Addressing: Street names are less common in rural areas. Rural addresses often depend on village names and district identifiers instead of street numbers.
  • Capitalization: For clarity and legibility, write the whole address in the capital letter.

Postal Information

The postal system of Belarus is managed by Belpochta (Белпочта), the state-owned postal service provider responsible for mail distribution, parcel delivery, and financial services across the country. Before gaining independence in 1991, Belarus used Soviet-era postage stamps and postal services. However, after establishing its national postal administration in 1992, the government introduced its first independent postage stamps and restructured its postal network. Belarus operates a six-digit postal code system, where the first three digits indicate the regional sorting center and the last three specify the local delivery zone.

The Belarusian postal network is well-developed, with thousands of post offices serving urban and rural areas. Internationally, Belarus is a Universal Postal Union (UPU) member, ensuring compatibility with global mail exchanges. While traditional P.O. Boxes (А/Я) remain widely used, Belarus has modernized its system with digital tracking and express delivery options.

Our Customers Say It Best

We have been using PostGrid for a few months. It works with our CRM, the software interface, efficiency, automation, and integration with no issues. Their support team is quick with resolution and their web portal is easy to access and transparent in retrieving transactions and analyzing weekly & monthly sending limits.

Chief Technology Officer

This API has turned out to be a great asset. We started off with 4000 mailings for 3 months and never had any downtime. I requested an increase in the sending limits and it was given to me in 10 minutes! I also have used PostGrid to verify our mailing lists. It’s been great to us and customer support is very reliable.

Vice President Of Engineering

We wanted a low-cost, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-use direct mail platform. Finally, PostGrid took all my worries in terms of snail mail. The pricing is very reasonable! There is almost no delay in the SLA’s commitment, and it is exciting to watch automation in action. Easy to build and maintain the mailing lists of our patients. Not to forget, reports can be generated, and a block editor can be used too!

Director Of Operations

We were looking for a solution to outsource and automate our process of mailing welcome letters to our customers. Previously had 2 dedicated people printing the postage label, stamping it manually and stuffing the mail and dropping it off at the postal office. It was very inefficient and could have caused major compliance issues. PostGrid helped us eliminate the entire manual process with their automation and API solution, now sending all mails smoothly.

Director of IT and Operations

Very straightforward, fast, and reliable address standardization API. We collect address data from multiple patients, clinical records, and providers and attempt to combine them into one. Addresses are often redundant or formatted differently in this process, which is our biggest challenge. PostGrid makes it easy for us to solve both of these problems simply by appending PostGrid to our datasets.
