Ivory Coast Address Format With Examples
Ivory Coast, officially known as the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, is a West African country located along the Gulf of Guinea in the southern part of the continent. Known for its diverse cultures, rich natural resources, and growing economy, it holds a strategic position both geographically and economically in the region.
The address format within the country varies greatly. Although the government has attempted to develop a unified postal system, many areas, primarily rural or informal urban neighborhoods, do not adhere to a standardized addressing scheme. As a result, people often develop their ways of describing locations based on local landmarks, communities, or familiar places.
Additionally, many Ivorians prefer using landmarks or well-known buildings in addresses instead of exact street numbers. Rapid urbanization, particularly in cities like Abidjan, has led to the development of numerous informal settlements that have grown without proper urban planning. These neighborhoods may lack clearly defined streets or house numbers, so residents often rely on descriptive directions.
If you want to send mail to a client or customer in Ivory Coast but don’t know the correct address format, we can help. Below are the different types of addresses, along with their formats and examples.
Ivory Coast Address Format Breakdown
Recipient Name
In the first line, write the recipient’s full name. If you are sending the mail to a business, the company name will appear in the first line. Write the person’s name and department in the second and third lines. Add ATTN. in front of the person’s name to ensure the internal mail distribution system sends the mail to the correct office and desk.
Example:
ISSA KONE
Or
ABC LTD.
ATTN: ISSA KONE
HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT
P.O. Box Number
In Ivory Coast, the postal service provider only delivers to P.O. Boxes, not home addresses. However, they are testing home deliveries for a single building. The delivery agents deliver the package to boxes on the ground floor. To write this, add the term B.P. (Boîte Postale) followed by the box number.
You must add the two-digit office code before the P.O. Box. For home deliveries, the delivery office code is preceded by a ‘1’ to indicate that it is a home delivery. The locality will also come in the same line. Some famous localities in the Ivory Coast are Daloa, Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, and San Pedro.
Example:
06 B.P. 32 DALOA 06
Country Name
Write the name of the country in the last line. If you send international mail to the Ivory Coast, write the name in capital letters.
Example:
CÔTE D’IVOIRE (REP.)
Special Consideration for Writing an Ivory Coast Address
- Punctuation: Do not add commas between elements sharing the same line, such as the P.O. box number and locality.
