Haiti Address Format With Examples

Haiti is a Caribbean nation located on the western third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic to the east. It is the only country with which Haiti shares a land border.

Haiti is a mountainous country with a rugged terrain that has significantly influenced its development, agriculture, and infrastructure.  The capital city, Port-au-Prince, is located on the Gulf of Gonâve and serves as the nation’s political and economic hub.

The way people write address formats when sending mail varies drastically. Urban areas and wealthier neighborhoods often have more structured address systems, with street names and postal zones. Hence, addresses from these areas follow more standardized formats. In contrast, informal settlements or rural villages often have irregular layouts, making formal addressing complicated or unreliable.

Moreover, there are different types of addresses, each with its specific element requirements. If you need to mail a client or customer in Haiti but are unsure of the correct address format, we can assist you. We have listed all the different types of addresses, along with their formats and examples.

Haiti Address Format Breakdown

Recipient Name

In the first line, write the recipient’s full name. You can also add honorific titles, such as “Monsieur” and “Madame,” for “Mr.” and “Mrs.” If you are sending the mail to a business, the company name will appear in the first line. Write the person’s name and department in the second and third lines. Add ATTN. in front of the person’s name to ensure the internal mail distribution system sends the mail to the correct office and desk.

Example:

MADAM MARIE PIERRE

Or

ABC S.A.

ATTN: MADAM MARIE PIERRE

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

Street Address

In the second line, write the street name and the building number of the residential or business address. If the recipient uses a P.O. box, write “B.P.” (Boîte Postale, which is French for P.O. box) followed by the box number.

Example:

RUE DES MIRACLES 33
Or

B.P. 67

Postal Code and City/Commune

Haiti uses an alphanumeric postal code system, starting with “HT” followed by four digits. In the same line, write the name of the city where the person lives. Some of the major cities in Haiti are Port-au-Prince,  Cap-Haïtien, Gonaïves, and Les Cayes.

Example:

HT1324 LES CAYES

Country Name

Write the name of the country in the last line. If you send international mail to Haiti, write the name in capital letters.

Example:

HAITI

Special Considerations for Writing a Haitian Address

  • Address Line Alignment: All the lines should be left-aligned.
  • Address Placement: Write the address on the bottom right-hand corner of the envelope.
  • Punctuation: Do not add a comma between the address elements sharing the same line.

Examples of Different Types of Haitian Address Formats

Residential Address Format

Write the recipient’s name, street address, P.O. box number, postal code, city, and country name. Except for the postal code and city, every address element will be listed on a separate line.

Example:

MADAM MARIE PIERRE

RUE DES MIRACLES 33

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

Rural Address Format

Typically, the streets in rural areas of Haiti do not have a formal name. In this case, write the name of the village or the settlement, followed by the nearest larger town or city. Add the remaining address elements in the same manner as the residential address.

Example:

MADAM MARIE PIERRE

VILLAGE OF KENSCOFF

NEAR PORT-AU-PRINCE

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

Business Address Format

Instead of the recipient’s name in the residential address, write the company’s name in the first line. Write the person’s name on the second line and add their department on the third line.

Example:

ABC S.A.

ATTN: MADAM MARIE PIERRE

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

RUE DES MIRACLES 33

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

International Address Format for NGOs and Organizations

Write the organization’s name in the first line and the specific department in the second line. Place all the other address components, except the recipient’s name, in the same way as the residential address.

Example:

UNICEF HAITI

ATTN: CHILD CARE DEPARTMENT
RUE DES MIRACLES 33

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

P.O. Box Address Format

Instead of the street address, write the term “B.P.” and then the box number in the residential address.

Example:

MADAM MARIE PIERRE

B.P. 34

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

Military Address Format

The address format follows the same structure as the residential address format except for the first two lines. In the first line, write the rank and full name of the person. In the second line, write the military unit number.

Example:

CAPTAIN MARIE PIERRE

MILITARY UNIT 67

B.P. 34

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

Government Office Address Format

Instead of the recipient’s name, write the office and department names in the residential address on the first and second lines.

Example:

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
ATTN: DEPARTMENT OF EXCHANGE

RUE DES MIRACLES 33

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

Address Format for Multiple Recipients

If you want to mail multiple people in the same household or business, write each name on a separate line for the residential and business addresses.

Example (for family) Example (for businesses)
MADAM MARIE PIERRE

MADAM JENNIE PIERRE

RUE DES MIRACLES 33

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

ABC S.A.

ATTN: MADAM MARIE PIERRE

ATTN: MADAM JENNIE PAUL

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

RUE DES MIRACLES 33

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

Address Format for Courier Services

If you send mail using courier services like DHL or FedEx, add the recipient’s contact details in the last line of the residential address. Delivery agents can call them if they are unable to locate the address.

Example:

MADAM JENNIE PIERRE

RUE DES MIRACLES 33

HT1324 LES CAYES

HAITI

PHONE: +509 1324 7986

Postal Information

La Poste Haiti is the official national postal service provider of Haiti. It operates a network of post offices across the country, though the reach and consistency of its services vary significantly between urban and rural areas. Aside from standard postal services, it also offers registered mail, express mail, and P.O. box rentals.

In urban areas, especially in and around the capital, the service is more structured, with some level of tracking and scheduling. However, in rural regions, limited infrastructure and the absence of standardized addresses often mean deliveries are less predictable, and residents may need to visit local post offices to collect their mail.

Our Customers Say It Best

We have been using PostGrid for a few months. It works with our CRM, the software interface, efficiency, automation, and integration with no issues. Their support team is quick with resolution and their web portal is easy to access and transparent in retrieving transactions and analyzing weekly & monthly sending limits.

Chief Technology Officer

This API has turned out to be a great asset. We started off with 4000 mailings for 3 months and never had any downtime. I requested an increase in the sending limits and it was given to me in 10 minutes! I also have used PostGrid to verify our mailing lists. It’s been great to us and customer support is very reliable.

Vice President Of Engineering

We wanted a low-cost, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-use direct mail platform. Finally, PostGrid took all my worries in terms of snail mail. The pricing is very reasonable! There is almost no delay in the SLA’s commitment, and it is exciting to watch automation in action. Easy to build and maintain the mailing lists of our patients. Not to forget, reports can be generated, and a block editor can be used too!

Director Of Operations

We were looking for a solution to outsource and automate our process of mailing welcome letters to our customers. Previously had 2 dedicated people printing the postage label, stamping it manually and stuffing the mail and dropping it off at the postal office. It was very inefficient and could have caused major compliance issues. PostGrid helped us eliminate the entire manual process with their automation and API solution, now sending all mails smoothly.

Director of IT and Operations

Very straightforward, fast, and reliable address standardization API. We collect address data from multiple patients, clinical records, and providers and attempt to combine them into one. Addresses are often redundant or formatted differently in this process, which is our biggest challenge. PostGrid makes it easy for us to solve both of these problems simply by appending PostGrid to our datasets.
