Mayotte Address Format With Examples

Mayotte is a small but significant French overseas department located in the Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and the coast of Mozambique, near the Comoros Islands. Although geographically part of the African continent, it is politically and administratively part of France and the European Union. This makes it one of the EU’s most remote territories.

People within the country write address formats differently when sending mail. Many areas in Mayotte, particularly rural villages, lack formally designated street names or house numbers. As a result, residents frequently rely on landmarks, village names, or neighborhood identifiers to describe locations in their addresses.

Additionally, the island’s population includes many individuals who speak Shimaore or Kibushi as their first language and who may have limited experience with formal French postal conventions. This linguistic and educational gap can lead to inconsistencies in how people structure addresses, especially when writing in French.

Moreover, there are different types of addresses, each with its specific element requirements. If you need to mail a client or customer in Mayotte but are unsure of the correct address format, we can assist you. We have listed all the different types of addresses, along with their formats and examples.

Mayotte Address Format Breakdown

Recipient Name

In the first line, write the recipient’s full name. If you are sending the mail to a business, the company name will appear in the first line. Write the person’s name and department in the second and third lines. Add ATTN. in front of the person’s name to ensure the internal mail distribution system sends the mail to the correct office and desk.

Example:

MONSIEUR ALI MADI

Or

ABC COMPANY LTD.

ATTN: MONSIEUR ALI MADI

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

Street Address

In the second line, write the building number followed by the street name of the residential or business address. If the recipient uses a P.O. box, write “B.P.” (Boîte Postale, which is French for P.O. box) followed by the box number.

Example:

23 RUE DES COCOTIERS

Or

B.P. 34

Postal Code and Commune

Start with the six-digit postal code. In France and the regions it administers, they begin with 97 or 98. The third digit identifies the department. In this case, six is for Mayotte. Write the name of the city where the person lives. Some of the major communes are Acoua, Mamoudzou, Mtsamboro, and Pamandzi.

Example:

13242 MAMOUDZOU

Country Name

Write the name of the country in the last line. When sending international mail to Mayotte, write the name in capital letters. Since France administers Mayotte, mail sent from other countries must go through its international mail system, and you must write FRANCE in the last line.

Example:

FRANCE

Special Considerations for Writing a Mayotte Address

  • Address Line Alignment: All the lines should be left-aligned.
  • Address Placement: Write the address on the bottom right-hand corner of the envelope.
  • Punctuation: There should be no comma between address elements sharing the same line.

Postal Information

The national postal service provider in Mayotte is La Poste. It is the same organization responsible for postal services throughout France and its overseas departments. As Mayotte is an overseas department and region of France, it is fully integrated into the administrative and postal system.

La Poste operates branches across the island, including in major towns such as Mamoudzou, Dzaoudzi, and Koungou, offering a full range of services. It includes mail delivery, parcel handling, banking services through La Banque Postale, and various administrative support services.

Despite the island’s geographical distance from mainland France, mail sent to or from Mayotte is treated as domestic French mail. This means it uses the same postage rates and delivery standards as in mainland France. However, delivery times may be longer due to logistical challenges associated with the island’s remote location in the Indian Ocean.

Our Customers Say It Best

We have been using PostGrid for a few months. It works with our CRM, the software interface, efficiency, automation, and integration with no issues. Their support team is quick with resolution and their web portal is easy to access and transparent in retrieving transactions and analyzing weekly & monthly sending limits.

Chief Technology Officer

This API has turned out to be a great asset. We started off with 4000 mailings for 3 months and never had any downtime. I requested an increase in the sending limits and it was given to me in 10 minutes! I also have used PostGrid to verify our mailing lists. It’s been great to us and customer support is very reliable.

Vice President Of Engineering

We wanted a low-cost, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-use direct mail platform. Finally, PostGrid took all my worries in terms of snail mail. The pricing is very reasonable! There is almost no delay in the SLA’s commitment, and it is exciting to watch automation in action. Easy to build and maintain the mailing lists of our patients. Not to forget, reports can be generated, and a block editor can be used too!

Director Of Operations

We were looking for a solution to outsource and automate our process of mailing welcome letters to our customers. Previously had 2 dedicated people printing the postage label, stamping it manually and stuffing the mail and dropping it off at the postal office. It was very inefficient and could have caused major compliance issues. PostGrid helped us eliminate the entire manual process with their automation and API solution, now sending all mails smoothly.

Director of IT and Operations

Very straightforward, fast, and reliable address standardization API. We collect address data from multiple patients, clinical records, and providers and attempt to combine them into one. Addresses are often redundant or formatted differently in this process, which is our biggest challenge. PostGrid makes it easy for us to solve both of these problems simply by appending PostGrid to our datasets.
